The Coalinga-Huron Recreation and Park District provides for public use an original nine-hole disc golf course at Keck Park, 555 Monroe Street in Coalinga, California. The Keck Park course was designed by a group of local enthusiasts. It consists of 9 holes, total length is 2,974 feet but a variation of holes can be played to make it an 18 hole course. The course is unstaffed and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Park hours are sunrise to sunset - the course is not lighted and is suitable for use only during daylight hours.
Admission is free. Disc golf rules are similar to those used in Club Golf. It is played like ball golf using a flying disc that is tossed into pole baskets. One point is scored each time the disc is thrown. One point is also scored whan a penalty is incurred. The object is to acquire the lowest score. How do you get started? Tee off order on the first tee is by mutual agreement or by flipping discs. The printed side is heads and the odd man should be first. Tee off order on all subsequent holes is determined by the score on the previous hole. The player with the lowest score tees off first.
"Steady" Ed Headrick invented the game in 1975. Also the inventor of the Frisbee, Headrick was the founder of the Disc Golf Association and the International Frisbee Association. There are more than 1,000 disc golf courses in the United States with more than 3 million regular players and 20,000 professional members of the Professional Disc Golf Association.
